War survivors, particularly women  and Civil society organisations have urged governments under Great Lakes Region to put women especially those suffering in war zones at the centre of discussing methods of recovering peace and conflict resolution.

They say, Women and children suffer most when there are conflicts, and little has been done to support them to recover from the wide range of problems they go through such as trauma, physical injuries, depression, and economic crisis among others.

Caroline Adio, the executive director of the Northern Uganda Women Association for Human Rights-NUWAHR, says it is important for women in areas of conflict to take the lead in peace and justice conversations.

“Many of them saw the abductions, many children and women were killed. And those who were able to make it back returned with a lot of impacts like trauma, others lost families and property, while others have gone missing up to date, and no one can tell whether they are,” she noted

’Women and girls require direct involvement to hear their experiences and understand how they are coping with the memory of the war and the trauma they endured, and what they need to get out of the challenges they face.’’ She added

Lanam Stella Angle, a war Victim from Northern Uganda noted much as guns are silent in the northern area, the war is still existing due to hard lives they are going through day by day.

Lanam Stella Angle, who is  also the founder and director of War Victims and Children networking in Uganda noted that in just a space of two years, from 2021, they have witnessed over 20 cases of suicide among war victims as a result of trauma, depression, stigma among others tough lives they are still going through.
